Hello folks,

Have you purchased sour gummy worms lately? Did you notice how un-sour they were? It seems like when I was a kid sour gummy worms were actually sour, more like a War Head candy. Now, it is like the only sour part of a gummy worm is the coating and after you get that off it’s just sweet. Well, this recipe for Seriously Sour Gummy Worms will not disappoint; they are actually sour. These gummy worms are three layer of fruity sourness. Plus, they are super easy to make, seriously you don’t even need to know how to boil water to be able to make these. They would be a great addition to any Halloween get together.

First lightly grease a 8″x8″ or 9″x9″ baking dish with cooking spray.

Next, in a small sauce pan combine water, flavored gelatin, and unflavored gelatin.

Stir.

Heat over medium heat just until the sugar is dissolved.

Remove from heat and stir in citric acid! You can find citric acid in the canning section of the grocery store.

Pour this mixture into the prepared pan.

Allow to set for 10-15 minutes before adding the next layer, otherwise you will get this:

Which can look cool, if that what you’d like – go with it.

Otherwise, repeat with two more times with two different flavors and colors of gelatin. Once the other two layers are on, allow the entire thing to set for several hours or over night.

Once set dump the gummies onto a piece of parchment paper. You may have to sort of gently pull them out.

Then cut the gummy with a pizza cutter to form your worms.

Seriously Sour Gummy Worms: These are very sour! The recipe takes 9 teaspoons of citric acid!!!!
Ingredients
  • Layer 1:
  • 3oz any flavor or color gelatin
  • 3 envelopes of Knox unflavored gelatin
  • ½c. water
  • 3t. citric acid
  • Layer 2:
  • 3oz any flavor and color of gelatin, other then the one used in layer 1
  • 3 envelopes of Knox unflavored gelatin
  • ½c. water
  • 3t. citric acid
  • Layer 3:
  • 3oz and flavor and color of gelatin, other then those used in layers 1 and 2
  • 3 envelopes of Knox unflavored gelatin
  • ½c. water
  • 3t. citric acid
Method
  1. Lightly grease a 9x9 or 8x8 inch baking pan with cooking oil, set aside.
  2. Combine the water, flavored gelatin, and unflavored gelatin for layer 1 in a small sauce pan.
  3. Heat and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 3 teaspoons of citric acid.
  5. Pour into prepared pan. Allow to set 10-15 minutes.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 with the remaining two layers. Pouring layer 2 on top of layer 1, and pouring layer 3 on top of layer 2.
  7. Allow the gummies to set overnight.
  8. Once set gently pull/dump the gummies out onto a piece of parchment paper.
  9. Use a pizza cutter to cut the gummies into about ¼ - ½ inch wide worms.
  10. Store the worms in an air tight container at room temperature.
