Patriotic Sugar Cookies

Hiya,

So, I know Independence Day is coming up here pretty soon so I decided that today’s post and my next post will both be patriotically themed. That way when you throw your 4th of July bbq party you can have a couple delicious dessert options! These cookies are super simple and they taste great! Basically, these are just sugar cookies with a homemade oreo filling in them. How are they patriotic then? The sugar cookie dough is marbled red, white, and blue!

We start with making the cookie dough! In the bowl of an electric mixer beat together butter, sugar, and vanilla.

Beat in one egg.

Beat in the flour and baking powder. Mix very well.

Divide the dough into 3 equalish pieces.

Color one piece of dough red.

Color another blue.

Now you have red, white, and blue cookie doughs!

Roll the doughs out to make long “snakes.” Place them right next to each other.

Twist the “snakes” together.

Squish the twist together into a ball and press it out a bit.

Roll the dough on a powdered sugar dusted surface. Roll to about a 1/8th-inch thickness.

Cut with star-shaped cookie cutter.

Place the cookies on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake at 375F for 8-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Now you can serve the cookies just like this or you can make them sandwich cookies. If you are going to make them sandwich cookies you can work on making the homemade oreo filling now. I made it exactly the same way as I did in the Maple Creams recipe, just the shape you cut the filling into has changed.

If you have extra of the filling you can use it to make Dream Wheels if you want too. They are ama-zing!

I’m sure your Independence Day guests will be delighted with these Patriotic Sugar Cookies! They look super festive and taste fantastic. I think it could be cute to make these camo colored too, like if someone you know is in the military. Of course, you can do any color combination and cookie combination that you want too with this technic. I did pink, purple, and blue marbled unicorns once! So, cute! I’m sure you will have lots of fun with these marbled sugar cookies.
